On Wednesday Mrs. Germain’s 4th traveled to Greenland, New Hampshire to visit the Great Bay Discovery Center with friends from Francestown Elementary School. Prior to the visit, the class learned that the Great Bay is an estuary – a land form where freshwater and seawater meet. Estuaries are critical habitats for many animals as well as places for several bird species to stop along their migration routes. The 4th graders also learned about the Abenaki Natives who lived in the region and how they used the natural resources found in the estuary to survive. The early European settlers who came to the region and established New Hampshire as a colony also utilized its resources. It was an amazing experience for all!
