Happy Ground Hog Day February 2nd. While celebrating the harbinger of spring, Ms. Sutton’s class did some investigation about the groundhog and discovered that it is one of the only true hibernators in New Hampshire. Not even the black bear is a true hibernator, but a snooze waker. As a snooze waker, the black bear occasionally wakes up to walk around its den or to feed its young. Groundhogs can actually slow down their body functions to truly sleep through the cold months. This year the groundhog did rouse himself long enough to not see his shadow, predicting an early spring for us all.
