PBS Turtle Segment Airing

In the fall, NHPBS came and filmed the 3rd grade class at Pierce and the work we are doing with the turtle hatchling program. The turtle “head starting” program is in collaboration with the Harris Center for Conservation Education and NH Fish Game. We are following Zoo New England’s protocols for caring for the turtles and all turtles that were harvested will be raised in our classroom and released in May. This is in collaboration with the Harris Center for Conservation Education as well as NH Fish and Game. In the past week, Susie Spikol, our Harris Center naturalist, has been approached by the NH Public Broadcasting’s TV show Windows to the Wild https://nhpbs.org/windows/.

We have heard back from the producer and below is the link and time you can see the episode online. The hatchling project has been so enriching for our class and school as a community. Our class is very fortunate to have so many people come together to bring these turtles to our classroom. It is a truly integrated learning experience that ranges from social emotional learning to math, reading, writing and science.

The story will air – Wednesday, March 16, 2022 7:30 pm on NHPBS. It’ll be online at NHPBS.ORG/WINDOWS at that time.
